A healthcare professional needs not just a comfortable and functional uniform or scrub. You need to exude professionalism and inspire confidence in your patients – and also feel confident yourself. For that, a smart, fine-fitting uniform is essential.
The first thing that other people see is not your qualifications or your credentials – it’s you. To look professional at work, you need to dress the part.
Most healthcare uniforms and scrubs will be worn for at least eight hours at a stretch, so comfort is essential. Avoid uniforms or scrubs that are too tight or baggy, as they can make you feel uncomfortable or even be a workplace hazard. Instead, choose a good fit that won’t get in the way but won’t make you feel constricted.
To find a perfect fit and ensure that you both look good and feel comfortable at work, have a look below at our size guide for both female and male uniforms and scrubs.
If you’re not sure about how to measure yourself precisely, you’ll find a little guide to measuring yourself further down the page, as well some tips on taking measurements.
Uniform sizes
How to take body measurements
Chest/Bust
Measure around the fullest part of your chest, close to the nipples.
Waist
Find your natural waistline, typically the narrowest part of your torso, around the level of your navel.
Hips
While standing with your legs together, measure around the widest part of your hips.
Inseam
Determine the length from the top of your inner thigh to your ankle. For accurate measurement, use a well-fitting pair of trousers. Measure from the crotch seam to the bottom of the trouser leg.
Height
If you are measuring alone:
- Place a flat, straight object like a book or ruler on top of your head.
- Stand against a wall with a straight posture and flat feet.
- Ensure the object is straight and parallel to the floor.
- Mark the wall where the object touches your head.
- Measure from the floor to the mark for your height.
For accuracy:
- Maintain good posture, keeping your back straight, chin parallel to the floor, and feet flat.
- Ensure the measuring tape lightly touches your skin, not too tight or too loose.
- Keep your feet together when measuring hips.
- Take measurements at least twice to confirm accuracy.
If you're between two sizes, it’s advisable to choose the larger size for a better fit.
Remember, precise measurements ensure better-fitting clothing.
